Gut & Liver Reset

Gut health is important for hormone balance because the gut microbiome, or intestinal bacteria, play a vital role in hormone metabolism.

The microbiome has many functions, including:

Estrogen metabolism

The estrobolome, a subset of the microbiome, breaks down hormones and controls how the body eliminates excess estrogen. Estrogen imbalances can affect gut health and hormonal disorders like PCOS.

Nutrient absorption

The gut absorbs nutrients like iodine, selenium, and zinc that are needed for thyroid hormone production. Long-term birth control use strips the body of many vital nutrients and damages the lining of the gut.

Blood sugar hormones

The microbiome plays a crucial role in controlling blood sugar levels. Elevated blood sugar levels contribute to aging, while persistent spikes in blood sugar can strain the body and result in insulin resistance.

Adrenal hormones

When the gut is compromised, it can indicate stress to the body, leading the adrenal glands to release cortisol, known as the stress hormone. Elevated cortisol levels instruct the body to inhibit secondary functions such as reproduction and digestion, while also promoting fat storage and prioritizing cortisol production over hormones like progesterone.

Things that harm your gut health:

  • Inflammatory foods include, sugar, alcohol, Canola, vegetable, sunflower oil, soy, and peanut oils. Some of the worst processed food offenders include coffee creamer, soda pop, fried food, and "low-fat" sweets. The list goes on. Moral of the story- the less processed the better.

  • Birth Control

  • Antibiotics

  • Environmental toxins

  • Stress slows the body’s ability to heal tiny fissures in the intestinal lining. Stress can also speed up or slow down the contractions in the small intestine, affecting the rate food moves through your system.

All these things can prevent your gut from absorbing nutrients properly or lead to leaky gut and IBS. So, before you do anything else, take steps to restore your gut health.

STEP 1 - Reset

Research into how intermittent fasting impacts gut health is relatively new, but there’s evidence to suggest that it could help change the makeup of your gut microbiome, which is linked to your overall health. Intermittent fasting may also improve the function of your gut barrier, the layers of cells that form the lining of your gut, which let nutrients pass through while protecting you from diseases and toxins.

Try the 7-Day Fresh Start to reset your system and prepare your body for optimal nutrient absorption.

STEP 2 - Extra support

When your gut is functioning well, it becomes more efficient at absorbing the nutrients, vitamins, and minerals from your food. At this point, you may want to think about incorporating daily supplements such as vitamins, collagen, and other options.

STEP 3 - Detox & Liver support

Liver health is essential for our overall health. The liver is responsible for filtering out toxins and excess hormones. Think of it as your house filter! Birth control is a big toxic load on the liver. Helping the body detox can be a great way to support your body post-birth control.
